Fisheries News wrote a vivid reportage in the Shipbuilding, Repair, and Propulsion special edition about Kolmer Electric Motors:
HARDERWIJK – A brand-new building in Harderwijk and a 40th anniversary. Kolmer Electric Motors, supplier of a wide range of electric motors, has something to celebrate.
Kolmer Electric Motors is a company from Putten. The move to Harderwijk was not initially planned. "But our building was really getting too old, and we needed to make a sustainability leap. However, this couldn't be achieved in Putten," says CEO Martijn Stoffelsen. "It was possible in Harderwijk. We were received there with open arms and had a new building constructed. Of course, by entrepreneurs from Putten."
The workshop is twice as large as the old one and more efficiently arranged. Here, the electric motors are custom-made, adapted, and painted in the desired color. The new building is designed for efficiency and collaboration. The process from quotation to delivery has become more efficient. The product routing has been improved, and both incoming and outgoing quality controls are much more logically placed. This reduces the chance of errors and improves the quality of the product."
The storage space is also much larger. It accommodates up to 20,000 electric motors, from tiny to very large. (IEC 56 to 355) "In combination with our producers in Europe, from where fast delivery is also possible, this is an optimal stock. Our fast quotation service and 24/7 replacement service remain unchanged."
Kolmer supplies a lot to the fisheries. "For everything that rotates on board," says sales manager Jan Bakker. "Winches, drums, pumps, hydraulics, under the deck, you name it!" In principle, Kolmer supplies new motors - through machine shops, pump builders, and technical wholesalers - and repairs are carried out by repair companies. "Our (sales) engineers design customer-specific solutions and confer with repairers about, for example, the desired protection. For electric motors exposed to the elements on the deck, we have, among other things, a tough, wear-resistant coating that extends the motor's lifespan by at least four times."
The new building is energy-efficient and gas-free, and with a heat pump and solar panels on the way to climate neutrality. Stoffelsen: "In this way, we contribute to reducing the carbon footprint for the chain." Also, work experience and job satisfaction have been considered. "Short lines and easy contact with each other are important. For that reason, the physical distance to each other is small, and room dividers and glass walls have been used. Fun fact for our maritime customers; we are still close to the water in Harderwijk too."
